Coach Gus Steps Down as Head Men's Basketball Coach
Press Release
Allan Gustafson, Men’s Head Basketball Coach, Resigns
Cary, NC, March 5, 2018: Effective, March 5, 2018, Cary High School’s Men’s Head Basketball Coach, Allan Gustafson, Jr. has resigned due to personal reasons. Known around Cary as “Coach Gus”, Gustafson spent the last 31 years coaching men’s basketball at Cary; 11 seasons as the JV head coach and 20 as the varsity head coach. He was named conference coach of the year in both 2016 and 2017 and District 5 Coach of the Year in 2016. Coach Gus led the varsity men’s team to the state finals in 2016.
Coach Gus would like to thank former athletic directors Guy Mendenhall and Lee Mauney for giving him the opportunity to coach at Cary High School and to Kurt Glendenning and Mike Dunphy for their support over the years. He would also like to thank all of his former and current assistant coaches. Coach Gus writes, “I would like to thank all of the basketball players with whom I have had the greatest pleasure of coaching…. In the words of Tennyson, “I am a part of all that I have met, “. They have enriched my life, and I thank them for that.”
The Cary High School Athletic Department and Administration thank Coach Gustafson for all of his hard work and dedication over the past thirty one years and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.
The search for a new Men’s Head Basketball Coach will begin immediately.

Scott Walton Named Head Men's Basketball Coach at Cary High
CARY HIGH SCHOOL NAMES HEAD MEN’S BASKETBALL COACH
Cary, NC, April 10, 2018
Effective immediately, Cary High School announces its new Men’s Head Basketball Coach, Kevin “Scott” Walton. Coach Walton was the assistant varsity men’s basketball coach at Cary since 2014 where he had a 80-29 win/loss record with 2 conference championships and a 4A State Runner-up championship team.
Walton, a Cary High School alumni, received his BS in Physical Education and his MA in Education from UNC Pembroke where he played and coached basketball. Walton was Head Varsity coach at Louisburg High School and Pine Forest High School, and Head JV Basketball coach at Cardinal Gibbons High School.
Walton currently teaches and is the athletic director at Peak Charter Academy in Apex, NC.

$10 Physicals for athletics
Above you will find a flyer regarding pre-participation physical nights at Carolina Family Practice and Sports Medicine. They will have one night at each of their three clinics (Raleigh, Cary and Holly Springs). Please pass along this information to any athletes who will need a physical for the 2018/19 school year.
The cost is $10 per athlete and all locations will run from 6pm-8pm

The Cary High Cross Country team is selling fireworks as a fundraiser...Our tent will be located
at the Cary Crossroads shopping center in the parking lot next to Panera Bread/Carolina Ale House/Red Robin...We will begin selling the TNT fireworks on Wednesday June 27th thru July 4th...We hope to see you next week!

Want to Play Football for Cary High School in 2018
For those of you new to Cary High who are interested in playing football this fall, here is a list of "To Do" items before you show up for workouts/practices.
1. Register on goimps.com under 2018 Football (You will need a parent to create an account on goimps because you are not yet 18 yrs old)
2. You must have a valid Wake County Physical Form completely filled out by you, your parents and a medical doctor. Here is a link for the physical forms: Wake Physicals (Your Middle School physical forms cannot be used, only the doctors portion is OK as long as the date of the physical has not expired.)
3. Get registered for Football Camp at Mt. Olive University (see info below, for 10-12 graders only)
4. Check the practice schedule for Football and start attending summer workouts.
5. Bring tennis shoes and cleats to workouts everyday.
6. We start summer workouts at 7 AM, you need to check-in at the field house on Cooper Field by 6:45 AM.
7. You do NOT need to bring water bottles, we will provide that for the boys.
8. Get involved with the Cary Football Club to help make the necessary preparations for Gamedays!

10. Mandatory 1st day of practice will be Monday, July 30th at 7 AM. (Check-in starts at 6:30 AM)

Cary IMP Club Needs Your Help To Support the CHS Student Athletes!
High School Sports is more than just a fun part of the High School experience. Studies have shown that High School Sports develops a “Well Rounded Adult.” Athletics teaches teamwork, cooperation, and builds confidence. Wake County provides less than $900 total yearly for all our student-athletes, for ALL of our 35 Varsity and JV teams.
The IMP Club, through fundraising efforts, provides more than 60% of the CHS Athletic Department Budget. 98% of the money raises goes directly to support the student athletes (i.e. facilities maintenance and repair, uniforms, etc.)
The IMP Club needs your help to support the fundraising efforts - training is provided.

Subject: Updated Bylaws for Club Membership Vote
As per our current Bylaws, Club membership is required to make changes. Attached are recommendations presented by the current board for membership vote. The purpose is to align the Bylaws with current Club needs and operations. Broadly, changes are highlighted in yellow and most changes modernize, add clarity and/or align with current practice.
If you are a Club member (active for the prior school year 17/18) or already a Club member for 18/19 school year, you may vote in one of two ways: (1) send an email with a simple Bylaws YES or Bylaws NO to caryimpclub10@gmail.com by August 10 at midnight EST or (2) attend the August 12, 2018 club meeting at 7pm and cast your vote in person. Abstaining will be considered a vote in favor of the proposed changes.
The IMP Club provides more than 50% of the CHS Athletic Department budget. The Club relies on members and CHS families to volunteer in areas that provide fundraising for the Club such as purchasing an IMP Club membership or Sports Pass (save $$$), helping wiht Concessions for all on campus sports, purchase of Spirit Wear and purchase of Sponsorships.
On behalf of the Club's board of directors, we look forward to hearing from you and seeing you participating in 18/19 activities.
